Color Tips for Spring and Beyond from Havenly

Do you have any go-to spring colors that work well in most homes?
Regardless of your style, I think blues and greens are a pretty sure bet for a lot of spaces. They remind us of water and nature so are a natural fit for spring. Both of these colors are also so versatile and can work as an accent wall in a dark tone, as a pop of color in pillows or a rug, or even as a statement sofa in your space. Depending on the tones and fabrics you choose, both of these colors can play in any style really well—an emerald velvet sofa can feel really luxe, while blue linen pillows can feel perfectly classic.
What are your favorite spring color combinations?
I’m always a fan of cool tones like sage greens and navy blues alongside lots of neutrals. It’s a timeless palette that fits really well into the California-cool style that is so popular right now. I also love a desert-inspired palette of dusty pinks, neutrals, and tans, which can be punched up with colorful flowers or patterned pillows.
Which colors are trending for spring 2020?
I’m excited that the blush pink trend is shifting towards earthier tones like terracotta or dusty rose. These tones almost feel like neutrals and are easier to incorporate into a space without making it feel too feminine or young. I also love how olive green is being used in paint, pillows, and upholstery and think it’s a great example of a color that transitions well from spring and summer to cooler months.
How do spring colors translate into core furniture pieces?
We’ve noticed more light tones in leathers. Our clients are all about durability so leather is a popular choice for sofas or chairs, but not everyone wants such a heavy dark piece in their home. Camel, taupe or off-white leathers have become really popular and can feel appropriate for warmer months when mixed with natural materials like wood and rattan.
